Where Winds Meet sects guide — every sect, its rules and which one to join

What each sect expects from you, which Martial Arts it is linked to, how to start joining, and whether staying Sectless is the better choice.

TierBuff·Beginner·9 分鐘·Published 2026-09-17·Applies to Global Version 2.2 — Perilous Eminence; precepts and requirements can change

A wanderer entering a lantern-lit sect hall in Where Winds Meet

Quick answer: join the sect whose weekly rules you would follow anyway. A sect gives you a shop, cheaper Martial Art learning, rank rewards and role-play identity, but every sect also has precepts: rules that add or remove standing depending on how you play. You can only belong to one sect at a time. If no sect's rules fit your routine, staying Sectless is a legitimate choice.

What a sect actually changes

  • Precepts. Each sect has rules that reward some behaviors and punish others. Silver Needle members must charge for healing; Midnight Blades gain Karma by defeating other players and lose it when defeated. Breaking or ignoring precepts costs sect standing.
  • Shop and rank. Sect standing unlocks higher shop tiers with cosmetics and exclusive goods. Guides report a weekly reputation cap (1,200 points at the time of writing), so progress is steady rather than something you can rush.
  • Martial Arts. Several sects are linked to specific Martial Arts, and members pay less to learn them. The sect does not lock you into its weapons; you can still use any Path.
  • Identity and activities. Sect halls, quests and group activities give your character a place in the world.

Being Sectless removes all precept restrictions, but you lose the sect shops and pay full price for Martial Art learning.

How joining works

Open the Sects menu and choose a sect to see its Entry Clue. The clue points you to a location or NPC, usually a sect elder, who gives you an entry quest or trial. Finish it to become a member. Some sects also require a minimum level or story progress. Clues can also appear naturally while you explore, so you may start an entry quest before looking for one.

To change sects you must leave your current one first. Read the new sect's precepts before you switch.

The sects

Well of Heaven

A sworn brotherhood built on righteousness and loyalty. Members may not harm each other, and the sect expects a weekly contribution; one precept punishes weekly earnings that are "excessive". It is linked to Thundercry Blade, the Mo Blade Martial Art used by Stonesplit – Might.

How to start: speak to San Qian'er in Harvestfall Village, Qinghe. Join if: you want a cooperative, orderly sect and play a tank build.

Silver Needle

The healers' sect. Its central precept is "One Life, One Price": members must charge for treatment, whether it is a diagnosis or an emergency rescue. Other precepts reward shared healing and a weekly amount of social appreciation. It is linked to Panacea Fan and Inkwell Fan.

How to start: find Doctor Yuan in the Moonveil Mountain area; you need to be a Healer-Initiate first. Entry uses the Three Questions trial, and each attempt produces a Medical Record for the entry elder to judge. Join if: you play Silkbind – Deluge or the Healer profession.

Midnight Blades

A PvP sect. Defeating other wanderers earns Karma Points, and being defeated removes them. Precepts push you toward constant combat.

How to start: go to Halo Peak in Sundara Land and find the muttering monk. Join if: you actively want open-world PvP. Avoid it if you mainly explore.

Nine Mortal Ways

Tricksters who profit from pranks and disguises. You earn weekly Fun Points by fooling others, but failed tricks or jail time cost Virtue. It is linked to Mortal Rope Dart (Bamboocut – Wind).

How to start: follow the Entry Clue in the Sects menu to its entry quest. Join if: you like social mischief and playing a Rope Dart build.

Velvet Shade

A social, aesthetic sect focused on charm, relationships and trading affection. It is linked to Vernal Umbrella (Silkbind – Jade).

How to start: you need at least level 10 and to have reached Kaifeng. Guides describe an unusual entry: in Online Mode, form a partnership with another player at "Companions" Intimacy or higher at Crimson Cliff in Qinghe (talk to Shi Yimo), enter the oath, then sever it. After a 24-hour cooldown, return to Shi Yimo and choose how the partnership ends. Join if: you play socially and already have a partner to help with entry.

Raging Tides

A sect born from military service, added with the Liangzhou update on April 2, 2026. Its precepts value never retreating and include a weekly drinking requirement. It is linked to spear and blade Martial Arts: Heavenquaker Spear, Stormbreaker Spear and Phalanxbane Blade.

How to start: reach level 10 in Solo Mode, travel to the Northern Vow Ruins Boundary Stone in Qinghe's Verdant Wilds, and complete the entry by drinking nine fine wines. Join if: you play Bellstrike – Umbra, Stonesplit – Might or Stonesplit – Strength.

Mohist Hill

Hidden Mountain's sect, added in Version 2.0. Unlike the older sects it lives inside the region: its disciples research, build and debate throughout Mohist City. Its philosophy is "Utility, Universal Love and Non-Aggression". You start as an apprentice and rise by researching, learning from mentors and submitting creations. Its rival faction is the Qiongqi Artificers, who use mechanisms for domination.

It is linked to Heavenwill Gauntlets (Bamboocut – Kite), which can also be bought from the Universal Love Shop. Elder Stork, who runs the 2.2 Trekking for Treasures event, belongs to Mohist Hill.

How to start: reach level 10, finish the Hidden Mountain main chapter Haven Astray, follow the Mohist Hill clue to Incomparable Tavern, complete the Jianghu Legacy Mountains Unveiled for Heron, then speak to Elder Stork at Equilibrium Hall for the sect token. Join if: you enjoy Hidden Mountain's building and mechanism systems, or play Gauntlets.

Other listed sects

The sect menu also names The Masked Troupe (performance and stage personas), Hollow Vale (linked to Soulshade Umbrella), The Inkbound Order (scholarship) and Lone Cloud. Their availability has changed between versions. Check whether a sect shows an Entry Clue in your client before planning around it.

Which sect should you join?

If you… Consider
Play a healer Silver Needle
Play a tank or cooperative melee build Well of Heaven
Play spear or heavy blade builds and do not mind a drinking precept Raging Tides
Play Gauntlets or love Hidden Mountain Mohist Hill
Want open-world PvP Midnight Blades
Enjoy pranks and social play Nine Mortal Ways
Play with a partner and like social roles Velvet Shade
Have limited weekly time or dislike rules Stay Sectless until one fits

Tips before committing

  • Read the precepts first. A sect whose weekly rules you ignore will cost standing instead of giving rewards.
  • Weapons are not locked. Sect Martial Art links make learning cheaper, but you can still use any Path.
  • The Healer profession and Silver Needle are separate. You can be a Healer without joining Silver Needle, but the two fit well together.
  • Plan around the weekly reputation cap. A little participation every week beats one long session.
