Both games are extraction shooters: you go into danger, collect valuables and try to get out alive. They differ in almost everything around that loop.

What you pay

STALZONE has no box price; EXBO earns from Stalcoins, which buy Premium time, Season Pass packs, cases and cosmetics. Escape from Tarkov is a paid game sold in several editions and reached version 1.0 on Steam on 15 November 2025. If cost of entry matters, STALZONE is the easier test.

What you lose and when

This is the biggest difference. STALZONE keeps your character, equipment and long-term progress permanently and puts only the loot you find at risk until you extract. Escape from Tarkov puts what you bring into a raid at risk and resets progress through wipes, now organised around a split between permanent and seasonal characters. STALZONE favours slow, cumulative progress; Tarkov favours fresh starts and a level playing field each cycle.

World and structure

STALZONE is one persistent open world with safe zones, NPCs, factions and a player market, closer to an online RPG. Tarkov uses separate raid maps with time limits. STALZONE adds a solo-friendly story of more than 50 hours; Tarkov's progression centres on trader quests between raids.

Feel and presentation

Tarkov is known for realistic weapon handling and a grounded military look. STALZONE has deep weapon customisation across more than 200 weapons but a stylised, blocky art style inherited from its origins, now improved by new lighting in some areas.

Which one fits

Pick STALZONE if you want to build one character for years, follow a story and play for free. Pick Escape from Tarkov if you want the most intense, realistic raids and enjoy starting over with each wipe cycle.
