Both games take place in a fictionalised Chernobyl Exclusion Zone full of anomalies, artefacts and mutants. STALZONE even began as a STALKER-inspired Minecraft server. Today they offer very different experiences.
Online world or single-player story
STALZONE is an online game first: other players share the Zone, factions fight over territory, and trades, ambushes and negotiations happen with real people. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is a single-player game; its developer has promised multiplayer as a later free update without a date.
Story
Both have substantial stories. STALZONE's campaign runs to more than 50 hours and is designed for solo play inside the online world. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is a standalone narrative game with its first major expansion, Cost of Hope, announced for 2026.
Price and platforms
STALZONE is free on Windows PC. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is a paid game on PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Console players can only choose S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2.
Look and feel
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 aims for realistic, high-end visuals. STALZONE keeps a stylised, blocky character style, although its 2026 lighting and face updates modernise parts of the game.
Which one fits
Pick STALZONE for a free, persistent online Zone where your character keeps growing and other players are part of the danger. Pick S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 for a polished single-player story you can finish, on PC or console.
