How Esper Swaps Work
Four characters share one combo; the swap becomes the main action once Entry Attacks and Esper reactions connect.

You control four Espers and can switch between them without a cooldown or resource cost. The key is each character's Esper Meter: when a portrait glows, swapping that character in launches an Entry Attack. If its element sits beside the current element on the Esper Cycle, the entry also triggers a reaction.
Charge the Esper Meter
Basic attacks fill it slowly. Skills and ultimates add more, dodge counters add it quickly, and a successful parry can fill the meter immediately. Watch the portraits while defending so a charged Entry Attack does not sit unused.
Use a repeatable swap loop
- Build the incoming character's meter through attacks, dodges or a parry.
- Swap when the portrait glows to fire the Entry Attack.
- Move to the main damage dealer while the reaction is active.
- Bring in support to restore buffs or protection, then repeat.
Connect the elements
Swapping is valuable because it keeps adjacent Esper elements reacting. A scattered team can still deal damage, but a connected group on the Esper Cycle generates named reactions and can complete a Triple Cycle.
Critical Dodge and the Break Gauge create safe windows for this loop. Treat the swap as a planned attack rather than an emergency escape.
A ready portrait is an opportunity
Do not swap only because the portrait glows. Delay the entry when the target is invulnerable, moving out of range or about to force defense. Enter when the attack can connect and the following character has time to exploit the reaction.
If the loop fails, keep the opponent constant and change one transition. Confirm meter generation, then entry timing, then the damage window. Replacing equipment, teammates and order simultaneously hides whether the problem was resources, compatibility or an unsafe switch.
Plan the exit from a burst as carefully as its opening. Finish on the character with the movement, protection or recovery needed for the next enemy sequence. A rotation that produces excellent damage but leaves the team unable to respond is incomplete.
